I Am Strong

Here is a great song and video by The Grascals. For the most part it is about children with cancer but it could apply to those of any age. We bought this album this weekend from Cracker Barrel - the only place it is available. Cracker Barrel donates a portion of the proceeds to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

Meters and Regulators

This KELOLAND news segment is about keeping gas meters and regulators clear of snow and ice. Those in my family will probably recognize someone on the video!

Wednesday Evening Musical Interlude

A nice little pop/rock song from Kim Mitchell, a Canadian. "Go For Soda" was released in 1985.

Tuesday Morning Musical Interlude

Today is my sister's birthday. Happy Birthday, Lisa! I think I remember her saying this was one of her favorite songs back in the day. The song, released in 1986, is "All Cried Out" by Lisa Lisa and Cult Jam with Full Force.

Monday Morning Musical Interlude

Think what you want about The Lawrence Welk Show - this song is pretty good. The guitarist, Neil LeVang, was born in 1932 in Adams, ND and lived both there and in Bemidji, MN when he was young. His family moved to California when he was thirteen and it sounds like he is still alive and well out there. Enjoy!

The gentleman with the maracas looks like he is having way too much fun!

9/11 Phone Calls

This video is very long, at well over one hour, but I couldn't stop watching. You might want to grab a tissue.

Todays Science Lesson - Leidenfrost Effect

In the video below the Leidenfrost Effect is illustrated with liquid nitrogen. In 1756, Johann Gottlob Leidenfrost discussed the effect in A Tract About Some Common Qualities of Water. This according to Wikipedia. Check out the link - I thought it was interesting reading.

Easily Open a Banana

This is life changing for me because all my life I've been opening bananas the hard way. Seriously. I don't know whether monkeys really open bananas using this method, but it sure is a lot easier. I showed the kids and they each had to try it on their own banana.

Tuesday Morning Musical Interlude

Have a listen and take a watch of this video of Perpetuum Jazzile performing "Africa," a Toto song. I believe this performance is all a capella - no instruments were used. The first couple minutes are a simulation of rain and a thunderstorm. A good way to listen to that is to turn it up a bit and close your eyes or work in a different window or tab. After listening for the first time you could go back and replay the first part if you want to see how they made the sound effects.

Perpetuum Jazzile is Slovenia's only jazz choir.

All right, here is another one for the Bee Gee fans in our audience. Enjoy!

Thursday Evening Musical Interlude

How about some Lynyrd Skynyrd? The answer appears to be yes. The song is "The Ballad of Curtis Loew."
