Today there was a large prairie fire south of Strasburg. The video tells the story very well. The abandoned farmstead that burned belonged to our family and is now owned by one of my brothers. It sounds like all of the buildings on the farm burned down except for a pig barn, a wood granary, and a group of steel granaries. The home and the big barn are gone.
At this farm my mom and her brother and sisters were raised. All of us have so many memories of the place. I believe my great grandma Gertie was born on that farmstead. Many of us had some property stored in the buildings - I lost a 1926 Dodge Brothers car - but fortunately they were able to contain the fire before it reached any occupied farms.
